I've been shooting the 24mm F1.4 GM for few months and extremely impressed with the results this lens produces. however, I would prefer wider prime native lens, hence, the new 20mm F1.8 G. I bought this newly released 20mm F1.8 with the hopes that it will be my go to everyday lens; I have a feeling that it will be. This is by no means a full review but I wanted to see how it performs in close up situations so I snapped couple shots in my backyard; it certainly holds up to the hype. I'll be taking it out in the next couple of days to do some landscapes testing at Joshua Tree National Park (day & Astro tests). I have to say that Sony did it again, they delivered a "Tiny-but-Mighty" master piece with small size, light weight, silent autofocus, aperture ring, and super sharp just to mention few great features. Yes, it is expensive but worth every penny for me as I can travel much lighter going forward. Technical values for both shots taken with A7R-IV in RAW straight out of camera. The only thing I did is square crop them both then export from LR as small JPGs : The Rose: F/1.8 1/500 ISO 125 The Watch: F/5.6 1/100 ISO 125

Nach einigen Wochen des Testens komme ich bei diesem Objektiv zu einem gemischten Ergebnis. Die optischen Qualitäten sind wirklich top! Durch alle Blendenstufen sind die Fotos knackig scharf, die typische Weitwinkel-Verzerrung ist bei diesem Objektiv praktisch nicht vorhanden und auch bei Offenblende ist mir keine übermäßige Vignettierung aufgefallen. Der Autofokus arbeitet ausnahmslos superschnell und und trifft immer. Die MOD von 19cm (AF) bzw. 18cm (MF) lässt sich sehr schön für Weitwinkelaufnahmen mit einem tollen Bokeh nutzen. Das Objektiv ist angenehm klein und leicht, liegt an typischen a7-Kamera gut in der Hand und wirkt zunächst sehr wertig. An dieser Stelle kommen wir nun auch zu meinem Hauptkritikpunkt: der Verarbeitungsqualität. Der AF/MF-Schalter könnte etwas griffiger sein, hiermit kann ich jedoch gut leben. Der Fokusring ist sehr griffig und lässt sich leicht drehen, für meinen Geschmack vielleicht etwas zu leicht, ist aber in Ordnung. Was mich jedoch wirklich stört: in axialer Richtung ist am Fokusring ein merkliches Spiel vorhanden. Dies habe ich bisher bei noch keinem anderen Objektiv in dieser Form erlebt, egal ob bei Sony oder Drittherstellern. Zweiter Kritikpunkt ist der Blendenring. In diesem Fall ist (wenn „Click“ auf „on“ gestellt ist) in radialer Richtung ein deutliches Spiel feststellbar. Dieses ist teilweise so groß, dass die Markierung am Blendenring außerhalb der Vergleichslinie am Objektiv ist. Das habe ich bei Objektiven von Drittherstellern, die einen Bruchteil dieses Objektivs kosten bereits deutlich besser gesehen! An dieser Stelle wird das FE 20mm meinen Erwartungen an ein Objektiv dieser Preisklasse und des „G“-Labels leider in keinster Weise gerecht.

I bought this lens last year after acquiring the my A7C. The 20mm f1.8 is outstanding particular for indoor limited light use. I personally dislike using flashes under any circumstances as it proves difficult to adjust (for me) even in post. This lens gives me the freedom to use it for limited light situations and still achieve great results.

This lens is incredibly sharp and almost distortion free - no visible chromatic aberration even in high contrast areas during full sun and very little distortion, which almost makes you forget you're using 20mm. The lens clearly exceeds the 48 MP resolution of my a7R III, which is incredible! Aperture ring is very nice and I use it every time. Build quality could still improve a bit, there is a little backlash in the aperture ring and the focus hold button, but that's nitpicking considering the images that this lens delivers. I'm very much looking forward to bringing it to the next hiking tour.

War auf der suche nach einem weiteren als 24mm mit sehr großer Offenblende. Habe mich dann auch aufgrund des Preises für das 20mm f/1.8 von SONY entschieden. Ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Super scharf auch schon bei f/1.8 (zwar nicht mehr bis ganz in den Rand aber immer noch sehr gut!) für Landschaften ist man bereits bei f/4 - f/5.6 super aufgestellt und erreicht bei meinem Exemplar bei f/8 ihr Maximum, danach nimmt die Schärfe schon leicht wieder ab. Am Funktionsumfang des Objektivs kann man nicht meckern, neben dem programmierbaren Button besitzt dieses Objektiv auch den neuen Blendenring Steuerring. nutze diesen zwar sehr selten (meist auf A) aber er verstellt sich auf A auch nicht direkt. Man muss schon eine ordentliche Drehbewegung ausüben um diesen von der Position weg zu bewegen. Alles in allem kann ich das Objektiv jedem empfehlen der ein kleines kompaktes Objektiv sucht, was optisch gefühlt auf dem gleichen Niveau wie das 24 GM ist.

I bought this lens to use with my Sony A7R IV. I wanted a prime lens that would produce great imagery without breaking the bank. I bought it after reading numerous online reviews and could not find a negative. I am absolutely delighted with the build quality, superb imagery and the weight I’ve owned other manufactures 20mm f1.8 lenses, but for me this is the best I could have ever hoped for. Well done Sony in producing such a great lens at an affordable price.

Länger war ich auf der Suche nach einer vernünftigen Linse für die Landschaftsfotografie. Erst habe ich wegen dem Preis ein wenig überlegt, mich aber dann doch für dieses Objektiv entschieden. Und ich kann sagen, ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Verarbeitung und Abbildungsleistung wirklich top. Ich denke, damit werden noch viele tolle Urlaubserinnerungen festgehalten werden.

Die Bildergebnisse sind tadellos, kaum optische Fehler, selbst bei FF-RAW-Bildern - also ohne Nachbesserung. Die Verarbeitung scheint tadellos zu sein, mit Kunststoff als Werkstoff für optische Geräte hadere ich weiterhin, auch weil sie ich auch bei ausgeprägten Minusgraden draußen benutzetn will - nicht nur ein paar Monate bis zu den ersten Rissen sondern viele Jahre lang.

Wer ein lichtstarkes Weitwinkel sucht, der liegt mit diesem Objektiv genau richtig. Es ist bereits bei Offenblende hoch auflösend bis in den Randbereich. Somit auch hervorragend geeignet um die Vollformat-Kameras mit Auflösung über 42MP auszunutzen. Andererseits ist es für APS-C ebenfalls sehr schön, da die Auflösung auch hier ausgenutzt wird und man gar keine Vignette mehr beachten muss. Der Fokus sitzt auch perfekt. Insofern kann ich jedem Fan von Weitwinkel dieses Objektiv wärmstens empfehlen.

Dies ist mein erstes Weitwinkelobjektiv. Ich habe dieses für die Landschafts- und Nachtfotografie gekauft. Es ist sehr gut verarbeitet und macht was es soll. Im Vergleich zum Standardobjektive für 180€ (50mm 1,8) stellt sich mir lediglich die Frage, ob der Mehrwert im Preis 900€ gerechtfertigt ist. Dafür müsste man mit anderen Herstellern und deren Weitwinkelobjektiven vergleichen können. An das Geradebiegen der technisch gekrümmten Fotos muss ich mich noch gewöhnen. Die Abbildungsleistung empfinde ich als hoch. Das Standardobjektiv ist da aber ebenbürtig.

Bonjour, J'ai acheté cet objectif FE 20 mm f/1.8 le 29/12/2021 et je l'utilise avec un appareil Sony A7s III et un stabilisateur 3 axes. Je n'utilise pas la stabilisation du capteur cause crop. Je réalise surtout des vidéos. C'est un objectif fixe de 20 mm excellent au niveau du grand angle et avec le zoom numérique du a7s3 je peux Zoomer jusqu'à quatre fois. Très bon autofocus avec une distance minimal de 19 cm, j'ai filmé des insectes presque en macro combiné avec le zoom numérique.

Un objectif compact , léger et délivrant de belles images même en condition de lumière difficile. Diaphragme sur objectif, cranté ou non, ce qui est bien pratique et rare sur les objectifs modernes. On peut l’emmener partout à la différence de beaucoup de zoom lourds et et encombrants.

Tout d'abord le problème qui n'en est pas un! Dès réception j'ai constaté que l'intérieur de l'objectif faisait du bruit. Je l'ai retourné pour un échange. Le second faisait le même bruit. Sur un forum on m'a signalé que c'était normal ! ! ! Pourquoi SONY ne l'indique pas dans son manuel , voir sur l'emballage. Que de temps perdu et des cûts de logistique. Sinon objectif compact, léger et des images très définies sur mon A7R4

Ein Weitwinkelobjektiv, das man auch für Detailaufnahmen gut einsetzen kann. Ich verwende nur dieses Objektiv und finde es klasse. Aber Achtung, es sind 20 mm Brennweite - nicht mehr und nicht weniger! Die Schärfe ist beeindruckend und ich habe den Wechsel von Zeii 24-70 auf dieses Objektiv nicht bereut.

Braucht man ein 20mm Objektiv, wenn man schon das 12-24mm Zoom hat ? JA!! so scharf, so verzeichnungsfrei - ideal auf der Alpha 7 R IV ... der einzige Mangel: Sony spart Pfennige mit der Plastikhalterung für den Filter ... das könnte besser sein; wenigstens ist es noch nicht wie am 135mm GM rausgebrochen. Schade

Habe das Objektiv für die Fotografie bei Dämmerung, in Räumen und Astroaufnahmen gekauft. Bisher bin ich sehr zufrieden damit. Die Auflösung ist sehr gut. Die Haptik ist gut, Design ist ansprechend. Mit diesem Objektiv ist die Alpha 7 ii nicht kopflastig und lässt sich gut bei längeren Touren transportieren. Lediglich die 20 mm Brennweite ist mir beinahe zu Weitwinkelig.

Un obiectiv grozav - compact si bun, la un pret rezonabil. As aprecia ca Sony sa aduca aceste caracteristici si in zona zoom-urilor de KIT sau generale - o versiune noua a kitului 28-75mm, sau a obiectivului Zeiss de 24-70mm, cred ca ar fi apreciate de multi entuziasti.

This lens is often too sharp , i chose this lens for an all round wide angle landscape lens that was also perfect for astronomy, its light / compact / very high build quality. I personally think it should be priced more in the £825 range due to it no boing a GM lens.

Für den Einstieg ins Sony-System mit eine A7C, die sich auf Grund ihrer Kompaktheit hervorragend als Outdoor Kamera eignet, benötigte ich ein Weitwinkel hauptsächlich für die Landschaftsfotografie. Das 20mm f1.8 erwies sich als eine sehr gute Wahl, von der Abbildungsleistung bin absolut begeistert.

A bit of background: I was on the Canon Eos system for 3 decades prior to buying my first Sony (A7R3) at the end of 2017. I have used adapted Eos lenses using the Metabones & Sigma MC11 adapters. I also adapt a wide range of old 'classic' lenses to the Sony camera too. I only bought one Sony native lens, GM85, when I bought the A7R3 as I wanted to have one native lens so I can better judge the camera by & compare to my adapted lenses, I went for the GM85 because its a portrait lens & the A7R3 has eye AF - it would be rude not to have gone for a portrait lens! At the end of 2019 I added the G200-600, which was on a 'double sale'. At the very end of 2020 I added the GM24 having deliberated for a long time between it & the 20 1.8. A focal length of 24mm on full frame/35mm film has always been a strong preference for me photographically, so it got the nod over the 20mm, I purchased when it was also on a 'double sale'. I am biased toward Landscape type of photography, but shoot a bit of everything. I tell you the above to help frame my following comments about the 20mm. Why did I get the 20mm when i had the 24mm? Well, I think there were three 'drivers' for me. I added an A7S3 in the first half of 2021 (separate story), & amongst other things, used it for a vlogging camera when I was out shooting, I obviously used the GM24 for this, but it felt a little too tight when at arms length, especially when using image stablisation which crops in a little. Second, I've also shot the night sky alot over the past decade, with motorised telescopes & cooled mono CCD's etc - full astro imaging rigs. These are computer controlled & once setup & going I then leave them running all night & then get out camera & wide angle lens to shoot nightscapes, both the 20 & 24 are good for this, but the 20 gives a more sky, so arguably is the better option. Thirdly & finally, the G20/1.8 was on a double sale for a few weeks in the summer of 2021 - that was the tipping point for me in a 'now or never' kind of way. The G20/1.8 is perfect on the A7S3 for a vlogging lens, its quite light & a little more compact than the GM24. I also see that I will use it for hiking - both for vlogging the trip & also doubling up as a light weight wide angle landscape lens, & if/when those hikes include an overnight camp, then for nightscape/astro use too. If I am not vlogging, or not needing to hike light, then I would probably take the GM24 as it would be my preference for landscape use. Both a great lenses optically I think, the GM24 does feel slightly better in the hand, more solid/substantial, but the G20 being lighter & feeling 'less solid' as a result is both a pro & a con. Just waiting for the Sony 14/1.8 to be on double sale now ;-)

Am cumparat produsul si l-am testat in decurs de 1 luna. este excelent Desi inelul de diafragma este foarte misto da cm incurca putin dar te poti obisnui. Cred ca ar fi putut sa se blocheze

Diese Objektiv ist einfach traumhaft. Sobald man weiß, mit 20mm umzugehen ist diese Brennweite einfach spitze. Man kann sie für kreative Portraits, Street, Landschaft und (dank der offenen Blende beim 20mm 1.8) auch für Nachtfotografie verwenden. Das Objektiv ist scharf über die Ecken, fokussiert butterweich und mit dem Sommercashback und dem Welcome to Alpha Bonus war es einfach der Preis-Leistungssieger 2021. Kann es wärmstens weiterempfehlen.
